Properties of wood
“Natural” with enormous potential
Wood still has a key role as a construction material and it is used for many applications like floor for internal and external structures and coatings.
We need to consider the difference between the various “structural” material levels and the consequences in their use.
In net wood (wood without defects) the tensile strength is about 100 Mpa, 800 Mpa for the single cellulose fibres and much smaller for the wood in structural dimension. Therefore, only part of this material can be used in virtue of the mechanical features of the cellulose fibres.
