Transversal section analysis
The starting point of the wood anatomy analysis is the transversal section, obtained by cutting the trunk orthogonally to the longitudinal axis. Its main feature are the concentric circles, the so-called growth rings.
The natural spacial organisation of the cells determines their structure and aspect and by producing the sap they also grant the plant vital functions.
