{"id":400,"date":"2017-07-05T12:08:35","date_gmt":"2017-07-05T10:08:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/academy.bormawachs.com\/?page_id=400"},"modified":"2017-11-08T13:09:24","modified_gmt":"2017-11-08T12:09:24","slug":"proprieta-meccaniche","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/academy.bormawachs.com\/en\/proprieta-meccaniche\/","title":{"rendered":"MECHANICAL Properties"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]<strong>Mechanical properties<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>Wood is a composite material<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In order to measure the wood mechanical features, we need to consider its <strong>moisture <\/strong>and <strong>density content<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Under the same moisture content, the <em>elastic module <\/em>ranges from 9 to 15.5 MPa for Hardwoods and between 7 and 14 MPa for the soft ones.<\/p>\n<p>Its tensile strength is between 100-120 MPa along the fibres whereas it is 10-20 times less along their orthogonal direction.<\/p>\n<p>Generally speaking, the tensile strength is 2 or 3 times higher than the compression-traction.<\/p>\n<p>The nodes can diminish the toughness of wood and alter its mechanical features.
